And Then There Were 3

It's down to Mark Steines, Todd Newton, and George Hamilton for the Price job. I'm not going to pull any punches--I'm rooting for Todd. I was part of a small group of people 4 years ago that worked with Todd to go over the mechanics of the pricing games, and I can tell you he really didn't need much help. He was solid. His other hosting performances have far exceeded the quality of the show he was given. He's got a game show pedigree and has been a champion of the genre.

I can't speak for Mark Steines to be honest, but if we're going to go with someone who isn't really a household name, Mark can't be any better than Todd. That leaves George. Fans who were in the audience for George's tryout have indicated it was awful, and at 67 he's probably not a good choice. On Match Game '98, as a panelist, he hardly wowed me with his comedy or his timing.

If we're down to these three, they need to go with Todd. All indications are that they've already made their pick, and I'm sure we'll here it this month, perhaps as soon as a day or two after Bob's retirement specials have aired. The world will be waiting to hear.
