Surviving a Reality Show About a Game Show

I didn't hate "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" as much as I thought I would, although I certainly didn't fall in love. The game elements were actually pretty fun. I really think they captured the essence of Japanese game shows and I like the fact that the games change from week to week. The on-air graphics were cute, the host does a great job, and in general the games just look fun. I just wish there was more game.

The reality component of it just drags the whole show down. It's hard to imagine how there can be so much pent up drama and angst between these people; yes, they're playing for cash but they're not stuck on an island somewhere eating dirt. Reality has gotten so formulaic now that I don't understand how it's so popular. Every reality show takes the same disappointment shots, has the same meaningless blowups between players.

I may keep tuning in but I wish they'd concentrate on what's the most exciting element of this show, the actual game, not the bogus interpersonal relationships.
