Bonus Game

1972 - Present

This game, one of the first five ever played, endures to this date, although it's played somewhat infrequently. In Bonus Game, a contestant is shown a small prize and is asked if the given price is higher or lower than the actual price. If the contestant guesses correctly, the small prize is won and a chance to win the bonus prize is also won. The four small prizes correspond to a set of four windows. After all four prizes have been played for, the windows light up with either "Bonus" or "NO." Only one of the windows houses the bonus prize. If the contestant has won the small prize which corresponds to the Bonus window, the contestant also wins the Bonus Prize. This game is noteworthy for the number of contestants who have won the Bonus Prize after earning just one window...or for the number of unfortunate contestants who have lost the Bonus Prize after tripping up on just one of the windows!

Set changes: The board has gone through several color changes since 1972. The windows are now blue to make the BONUS and NO windows show up more clearly. The name "Bonus Game" was added to the board around 1974 or 1975.

This tacky yellow will never do! She's earned this window by guessing the prize correctly. No matter what happens, the small prize is hers to keep.

Ah...that looks much better. This board was pretty snazzy for 1973. Of course, this contestant could care less. She didn't earn the bonus window and has lost. She has won $75 in small prizes, though.

Yet another board update...I believe this is the board still used today.
