1973 - Present
The worst thing a contestant can see Barker's Beauties wheel out on stage is not an Amphibious Vehicle...it's Hi-Lo, hands down the most difficult of any current game to win. The contestant is shown six grocery items and is asked to pick the three highest priced items. If the contestant does this correctly, s/he wins. Unfortunately, there's no room for error, and the odds against winning are something like 57-1. Despite this, savvy shoppers who realize that TPiR uses the same 10 or 12 grocery items over and over again can win this game easily.
The first time Hi-Lo was played involved a different set of rules. Bob would reveal the price of an item and ask the contestant if s/he believed it went in the Hi or the Lo row.
Set Changes: The Hi-Lo table has gone from orange, to white, to blue.
| Bob explains the rules to a nervous Hi-Lo contestant. Check out that 'fro! | This is from the first time Hi-Lo was played. Note that the prize values are being added one by one. |
| Looks like those Tootsie Pop Drops belonged on the Hi row...sorry! | Here's the second Hi-Lo set being wheeled out by the lovely Dian. |
| We're playing with the regular rules here...and by 1981, 65 cents in the hi row is not a good sign. | Here's the current Hi-Lo setup from 1999. |
| $2.99 is the lowest price in the Hi row. This could get interesting. | She's a winner! The next highest price was $2.29. Smart shoppers CAN win this game! |
