Make Your Mark
1994 - Present
Make Your Mark is an intriguing game played
for three prizes. On the Make Your Mark board are four prices; three
of which correspond to the prizes shown, one is an impostor. The contestant
is given $500 in cash and then "marks" the three prices s/he thinks are
represented by the prizes (s/he doesn't have to guess which price belongs
where, just which three are represented in the game). After the marks are
placed, Bob shows two of the prices that the contestant has correctly identified
(obviously, with three marks and four prices, the contestant has at least
two prices correct no matter which prices s/he marked). Bob then offers
the contestant a decision: s/he can keep the $500 and leave the one "uncertain"
mark as it is, or give up the $500 and switch the "uncertain" mark to the
one price s/he didn't mark in the first place (see below). After this decision
has been made, Bob reveals the price of the last prize, and if the contestant
made the right decision, s/he wins all three prizes. If s/he did not make
the right decision, s/he loses the prizes and the $500 cash.
Audience, scream in time here: IF YOU ARE IN
DOUBT ABOUT GIVING UP THE $500 OR NOT, GIVE IT UP! If you have no
clue whether the unannounced price is actually the price of the unannounced
prize, change the mark! The odds that you got all three marks right in
the first place aren't that great. Now, if there is a large disparity between
the two price possibilities and you are pretty sure you made the right
decision to start with, feel free to keep the mark as it is. But if you're
just guessing, by all means switch it! The odds are in your favor.
From 1994 -2007, the game was known as Barker's
Markers. When Drew Carey took over the show in 2007, the game was renamed
Make Your Mark. Curiously, this game changed its name to remove any
reference to Bob, while Barker's Bargain Bar did not change its name. The
game was played only once on the short-lived Doug Davidson Price is Right, where
it was also called Make Your Mark.

 |
| It's an ARRAY of
prizes! Garden tools, a cradle, and a motorized...something. |
Here's the stylish
Barker's Markers board. Those three asterisks at the bottom are the marks. |
 |
 |
| He's marked every
price except $1,270. |
$1,555 is represented
by the cradle, while $2,199 is the price of the bike. |
 |
 |
| Well this is a cake
walk! There's no way those garden tools are $3050; he should switch the
mark. |
What are his friends
smoking?? They want him to stay?? It's a lawn mower and a leaf blower for
Pete's sake! |
 |
 |
| Well, unfortunately,
he kept his mark and of course he was wrong. He loses all three prizes... |
...and he must give
up the $500 anyway. He's a gracious loser, though. |
