I was shocked to learn about the untimely death of Peter Tomarken and his wife in a plane crash in Santa Monica, California. Peter was Press Your Luck; his style and wit and ability to lead made Press Your Luck the exciting show that is immortalized to this day.
Growing up I always regarded Peter as a great host, not only on Press Your Luck, but on the cult favorites Hit Man and Wipeout. We can't forget that Peter was part of Game Show Network from Day One, hosting their Prime Games segments live coast to coast and never missing a beat.
I had the honor of meeting Peter in 2003 during the development process of Whammy! The All New Press Your Luck. Peter and Todd Newton were auditioning as hosts, and I had the ultimate honor of participating in a run-through with none other than Peter as host. Even though Peter was not selected as host, he remained a class act to the end, even agreeing to host a round of the new show on the first episode of Season Two.
Much like when we heard that Ray Combs' life had ended all too soon, game show fans will have a tough time saying good-bye to a face that was part of their lives for over 25 years. We'll miss you Peter.
