Shower Game was an unusual pricing game played for a car. Six different shower "stalls", each tied to a different price of the car, were shown. Only one of the stalls had the correct price of course. The contestant would walk into the stall s/he though had the right price for the car and pull on a lever. Three outcomes were possible--a key could drop down, indicating that they had the price right and won the car. Alternately, in two of the stalls, $100 in cash would descend, which was the contestant's to keep but meant the game was over. Lastly, they could be showered with confetti, which, albeit messy, meant the game continued and the contestant could pick another shower. Cash and confetti were inserted into the incorrectly-priced stalls at random, meaning there was no rhyme or reason as to whether you would get one or the other if you picked incorrectly.
Shower Game may be the largest pricing game ever created and took up a breathtaking amount of the stage floor. On the first playing of the game, the contestant won on his first pick! But Shower Game went the way of its other short-lived 1978 pricing game brethren, Telephone Game and Finish Line, and was quickly retired. Rumors abound as to the final reason for the game's retirement, although it has been discussed that the game was considered culturally insensitive and received complaints from viewers. Like Telephone Game and Finish Line, Shower Game was usually played on episodes that included fur coats, which means no episodes featuring those games were included as part of GSN's rerun package from a few years back.
Shower Game popped up on the French Price is Right in the late 1990's.
Set Changes: Despite its blink-and-you-missed-it history, Shower Game actually underwent a minor set change in its short life. On the first playing of the game, the prices for the stall were only shown at the top of the stall in small lettering. Later in the game's existence, the price was also shown in large type on the shower stall door.
