Trader Bob

1980 - 1983 (retired)

Trader Bob was a realtively uncomplicated game played with four two-digit prizes. The contestant was shown one two-digit prize at the beginning of the game. This was the base prize. The contestant was then shown a set of two other prizes and had to choose the one of the set that was higher in price than the base prize. The process continued with two more sets of two prizes; each time the contestant had to choose the prize that was higher in price than the prize(s) s/he selected before it. At the end of the game the contestant had four products lined up in a row in the order s/he was shown them: the first prize being the base prize and the last three being the prizes s/he had selected from the prize sets shown. If the prizes increased in price from left to right, the contestant won a bonus prize. If at any point that increasing order was broken, the contestant lost. Winners of the bonus prize also won the four small items, while losers won the small items they had placed in the right order.

Technically the odds of this game were 7:1--three sets of prizes and a choice of two in each set. However, the game was not won often. There was no room for error and the contestant didn't even know what the price of the base prize was until the final reveal. Bob would reveal the price of the prize in each set of prizes that the contestant didn't pick. If this reveal indicate a sharp increase in price from one set to the next, it meant that the contestant was probably going to lose.

It's the rustic Trader Bob set! Filled with a log cabin and barrels...very interesting. Our base prize today is a Dazey curling iron. The next prize the contestant picked had to be more expensive than this.
Here's our first set of two prizes, a can of paint and cosmetics. Which of these is higher in price than that curling iron? The contestant picked the paint so Bob revealed the price of the cosmetics--$25. This contestant lost because the paint was less than the curling iron.
Here's a Trader Bob winner. The base prize was $29, the first she selected was $47, and the second was $66...if that third and final prize is higher than $66, she wins... ...and it is! $75! She beat the odds and won the bonus prize, in this case a Caribbean cruise!
