Walk of Fame

1983 - 1985 (Retired)

Walk of Fame was an ingenious game played for a unique combination of prizes; one two-digit prize, one three-digit prize, and two four-digit prizes (but never a car). The contestant bid on the first prize and if his/her bid was within a certain range (above or below) the ARP of the prize, s/he won that prize and moved on to the next expensive prize. As the prizes got more expensive, the ranges got more lenient to allow more room for error. Should the contestant's bid on a particular prize ever be beyond the given range, that prize was lost forever, but the contestant could win a second chance to continue in the game and move on to the next prize. Bob gave the contestant a choice of two autograph books. Each book contained the autographs of Bob, Johnny Olsen, and the models. One of the two books also said "Second Chance" If the contestant picked that book, s/he could move on to the next prize. If not, the game was over, but the contestant won whatever prizes were won up to that point. Naturally, if the contestant gave a bad bid on the final (and most expensive) prize a second chance could not be earned to win that prize because the price was already revealed.

Walk of Fame is hands down my favorite of all retired games on TPiR. I keep hoping beyond hope that the producers might realize their mistake of retiring the game (15 years later) and bring it back. The board was incredibly cool and the autograph books were an ingenious idea (not to mention a cool souvenir). My only hypothesis for the demise of this game was that the range readout that moved up the board may have had mechancial problems. The game was certainly easy to figure out and fun to play.

The first playing of Walk of Fame was a major disaster. First off, the range on the first prize was only $10, and the contestant missed it! Then they brought out *3* autograph books instead of two, and only one had "Second Chance" written...and the contestant didn't get a second chance! By the second episode, the third autograph book was gone and the range on the first prize was increased accordingly.

Set Changes: The word "Fame" went from green to gold after the first disasterous playing of the game.

It's cookware, and a cupboard! And a motorcycle, and a trailer! Gadzooks!
Here's the ultra-spiffy Walk of Fame board. She must guess the price of the cookware $50 above or below the retail price.
And she did that handily! In fact, she won the cupboard too!
The motorcycle is another story. She missed it by $1,082 and she only had a $500 range. That prize is gone forever. But she can still get a chance to win the trailer in one of these autograph books.
Wow! Bob Barker's John Hancock! And it's a second chance!
